A listing should accurately explain what the buyer will receive and how the order is fulfilled. For a print-on-demand seller, this includes distinguishing your design work from the production partner’s manufacturing work. Etsy’s production-partner guidance describes partners making products from a seller’s original designs. Check the current marketplace rules before publishing; this worksheet is an operational aid, not legal advice or a guarantee of eligibility.
Check the design and production relationship
Confirm that you own or have the necessary rights to every design element. Do not assume that a downloaded file, popular slogan, brand name, or image found online is available for commercial use. Record your asset sources and licenses. Review whether the product fits the marketplace’s current requirements and add the appropriate production-partner information where required.
Match the listing to the actual variant
Check material, size range, color names, print placement, and care instructions against the specific product. A generic supplier description may refer to options you are not offering. Ensure photographs or mockups do not imply features absent from the delivered item. If you use a mockup, be clear about what it represents and consider adding your own sample photographs.
Explain the decision before checkout
- State what is included and what is not.
- Make the size or measurement guidance easy to find.
- Explain customization steps if you offer personalization.
- Separate production estimates from shipping estimates.
- Describe your support and return approach consistently with applicable rules.
Do not copy another shop’s promises, delivery windows, or customer reviews. Your listing is a commitment about your own operation. If you have not ordered a sample, do not claim that you personally tested the item.
Recheck the economics and order path
Use current platform fees and supplier charges in your pricing worksheet. Include any planned launch discount and delivery destination differences. Confirm that the storefront variant maps to the intended supplier product and artwork. A good margin calculation cannot rescue an incorrectly mapped size or design.
Publish small and observe
Start with a manageable set of products whose information you can support. Review the first orders for mapping, communication, and fulfillment issues before expanding. Keep a dated checklist for each listing so a later provider or artwork change triggers a new review. Search visibility depends on more than keywords: a useful listing must also fulfill the promise that brought the customer to it. Avoid adding unrelated terms just to attract impressions.
